In addition to the European Data Protection Supervisory Authority (EDPS), there is at least one national data protection supervisory authority or a national data protection officer in each member state of the European Union.
The data protection authorities have the task of informing the public about rights and obligations in the area of data protection. They provide expert advice on data protection issues and are the first point of contact for data subjects, data controllers and complaints.
Some supervisory authorities already provide an electronic complaints form on their website for this purpose. Irrespective of this, we have the right to complain about individual processing operations, organisations, institutions and companies. The data protection authority is then obliged to investigate this complaint.
The tasks of the data protection authorities are explained on the website of the European Commission: https://commission.europa.eu/law/law-topic/data-protection/reform/rules-business-and-organisations/enforcement-and-sanctions/enforcement/what-role-data-protection-authority_de
